KAVAR

Kavar is the shared name of a cluster of villages that meet our eyes at the first bend of the road where we see the Van Lake for the first time while driving from Tatvan.

When the peasants of Kavar were finally able to return to their villages after having had to flee in the 1990s, they had to build their lives from scratch. But life today, as it has been before, is far from being generous to the people (of Kavar). A peasant trying to protect his corn field from the attack of the wild boars, a young beekeeper trying to stand on her own as an independent woman despite her oppressive family, a father’s journey to Kobane (Syria) to find his young daughter who has joined the fight to defend Kurdish cities from ISIS… This is the name of the land where heavy price is paid to have an ordinary life… This is a documentary about land and the struggle to have roots…
